Background

With the implementation of a new Intranet based on Liferay DXP, in which functionalities have been extended and user-friendliness improved, a new, powerful collaboration and communication tool is now available.

Condis is a supermarket company founded in 1961, owned by the Condal family, which develops its commercial activity through a mixed model of its own store and franchised store. It currently has more than 400 establishments and operates throughout Spain. Its business concept and work philosophy are reflected every day in the group's supermarkets: proximity, quality, price, comfort and service vocation are the keys to its success.

This opportunity allowed Mimacom to face the challenge of improving the function-alities and usability of the Intranet and equip it with the capabilities to make it a communicative and collaborative tool. In order to achieve this goal, the following requirements had to be fulfilled.

  • Improvement of the usability focused on key elements such as information architecture, responsive design and the functioning of the search engine, but without losing some of the original functionalities.

  • Implementation of a complex organizational scheme through the management of users and permissions, as well as vertical and horizontal communication needs.

  • System of subscriptions (both voluntary subscriptions, managed by each user, and default subscriptions, managed from the Intranet administration) and notifications for different contents published on the Intranet.

  • Integration of applications used by Condis that are currently incorporated in their Intranet and that must continue to exist in the new Intranet, respecting the permissions and the single login:

    • Application Express from Oracle (APEX)

    • Oracle Forms & Reports (from Forms & Reports Servers)

Solution

Mimacom has completed the necessary tasks for Condis to implement the Corporate Intranet on the Liferay DXP platform, which serves as a base not only for the Intranet, but also to respond to future needs that may arise within the company.

For the same reason, Mimacom made the most of the functionalities that Liferay DXP offers as standard, building a flexible, modular and easily extensible platform. Liferay DXP is not only positioned as a portal manager, but also as a modular development framework, which allows this same platform to be used for back end development of any type of application that Condis may require (not only within the web environment, but also for mobile applications or for any other purpose).

In addition to the technological challenges in this pioneer project in Liferay DXP, the functional accompaniment to Condis has been strengthened so that our client gradually obtained the knowledge of the product and the implementation of the functionalities.
